Australian Glen Moroney founded Scenic Tours in 1987. In the early days, the company specialized in offering coach trips to the Australian coast for residents of Melbourne.
He later grew that domestic business to include tours to theatre and special events such as Expo ’88 in Brisbane.
In the late ‘90’s, he realized that Scenic Tours had developed such a reputation for quality and service that clients would travel further afield with them. Hence, the expansion to Norfolk Island in the South Pacific, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, South Africa and China.
The company continued to grow and purchased Evergreen Tours in 1998. Evergreen Tours has grown to become a leader in the budget touring market, offering a wide range of tours throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada & Alaska, and Europe.
Today, privately owned Scenic Tours is one of the largest and most successful tour operators in Australia.
Scenic Tours has sold its South Pacific programs via trade partners in both the UK and North America for many years but in 2007, Scenic opened its own office in Manchester, England and Vancouver, Canada, to serve travel agents and clients from both Canada and the USA.
2008 hailed the beginning of a new chapter for Scenic Tours, with the launch of their exclusive Scenic "Space-Ships" for Europe. The Scenic "Space-Ships" unique design is unlike that of any other ship on Europe’s waterways. Reminiscent of the facilities of an Ocean Liner, the ships boast private balcony suites on more than 80% of their cabins, more space than any other river cruise ships and offer a choice of dining and private butler service. They are also the first river cruise ships in Europe to be 100% owned and operated by an Australian company. In July 2008, the first ships Scenic Sapphire and Scenic Emerald were launched, followed by the Scenic Diamond and Scenic Ruby in 2009 and the Scenic Pearl in 2011. In 2012 we look forward to the commissioning of our newest ship, Scenic Crystal.

Scenic Tours is still proudly owned by Glen Moroney, and can now certainly claim its place as a truly global tour company. After such a humble beginning Scenic Tours is proud to now operate hundreds of extended tour programs to many exotic domestic and international destinations.
