Australian Glen Moroney founded Scenic Tours in 1987. In the early days, the company specialized in offering coach trips to the Australian coast for residents of Melbourne.
He later grew that domestic business to include tours to theatre and special events such as Expo ’88 in Brisbane.
In the late ‘90’s, he realized that Scenic Tours had developed such a reputation for quality and service that clients would travel further afield with them. Hence, the expansion to Norfolk Island in the South Pacific, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, South Africa and China.
The company continued to grow and purchased Evergreen Tours in 1998. Evergreen Tours has grown to become a leader in the budget touring market, offering a wide range of tours throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada & Alaska, and Europe.
Today, privately owned Scenic Tours is one of the largest and most successful tour operators in Australia.
Scenic Tours has sold its South Pacific programs via trade partners in both the UK and North America for many years but in 2007, Scenic opened its own office in Manchester, England and Vancouver, Canada, to serve travel agents and clients from both Canada and the USA.
Scenic Tours is not only a leader in luxury land tours - 2008 hailed the long anticipated launch of the Scenic "Space-Ships" in the European River Cruising market. The Scenic Sapphire and Scenic Emerald were launched in July 2008, with Scenic taking delivery of Scenic Diamond and Scenic Ruby in February and March 2009. Scenic Pearl will join the fleet early in 2011.
The Scenic "Space-Ships" are the most spacious on Europe's waterways, the only ships boasting private balcony suites for more than 80% of the cabins and also offering a choice of dining to passengers.
Scenic Tours is still proudly owned by Glen Moroney, and can now certainly claim its place as a truly global tour company. After such a humble beginning Scenic Tours is proud to now operate hundreds of extended tour programs to many exotic domestic and international destinations.
