From May to October 2010 the little village of Oberammergau in Bavaria, Germany will again be staging its famous Passion Play.
The Oberammergau Passion Play was first performed in 1634 and is the result of a vow made by the inhabitants of the village that if God spared them from the effects of the bubonic plague then sweeping the region that they would perform a passion play every ten years.
Over 2,000 villagers bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to life for the audiences that flock in from around the world. The play starts with Jesus entering Jerusalem, continues with his death on the cross and finishes with the resurrection.
The play is performed once each decade, in years ending with a zero, so 2010 is the year and Scenic Tours is the tour company. This event is so important on the European calendar that Scenic Tours made it a priority to secure an allocation of scarce Category 1 tickets to the play. These have been incorporated into a variety of specially crafted and unique vacations.
You can choose to attend the Passion Play combined with either our Jewels of Europe or Gems of the Danube European River Cruises along with a tour of regional highlights.
Due to the extremely limited availability of seats at the Passion Play and overwhelming interest, we urge you to book now to avoid disappointment.
